Exhibitions
As the curator for an exhibition on the history of natural perfume -- The Foul and the Fragrant: Creating Natural Perfume at the Doheny Memorial Library, University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA -- Mandy displayed turn-of-the-century perfume books and vintage memorabilia from her private collection. Her artistry with natural perfumery was the subject of the exhibit, Constructing Perfume: Scent, Space, Color at 3A Gallery in San Francisco, CA, which included architectural renderings of her fragrances, and an interactive experience of viewers matching color chips to scents.
Custom Perfume for Parties and Events
Mandy Aftel has made custom perfumes for product launches and other events sponsored by Gillette, Playtex, the Young Entrepreneurs Organization (YEO), and at a private party hosted by model Kirsty Hume. As part of a team with Stanford Medical Center, the Rosicrucian Museum and Silicon Graphics (SGI), she recreated a 2,000 year old perfume for a child mummy. She has devised an interactive approach to designing custom perfumes on the spot at occasions large and small, from bridal showers to corporate gatherings.
She has also worked with chefs including Daniel Patterson (Coi Restaurant) and Daniel Barber (Blue Hill, Blue Hill at Stone Barns) to create one-of-a-kind perfumed dining experiences.
