Tasmanian boronia, one of the most costly essences in the world, is as close to heaven as we are likely to get. Boronia's aroma is reminiscent of raspberry, apricot, violet, and yellow freesia. The Boronia essence is so precious in terms of rarity, cost, and aroma.  I wanted to be careful not to overpower its beautiful, subtle character. Antique sandalwood and agarwood create an exquisite, woody backdrop. This solid perfume smells like sunlight on the trees in the forest.

A honeyed sweetness arises from the connection between very light amber and the light floral of the lime blossom. Understated, elegant, light, clean, green.

• Scent Family: Floral Oriental

A floral heart swathed in amber and vanilla, with bitter orange and black pepper top notes. Created early in my career from the most popular top, middle, and base notes from my custom work. I wanted to make a perfume using the finest essences, of aromas most people love dearly.

An ambery lavender spray with hints of pink pepper and bergamot, in a base of organic grape alcohol. The warmth of the fruity sweet grape alcohol  and rich lavender absolute marries beautifully with the amber base. Named for the legendary drink, dry, herbal but sweet too. The bitter notes of wormwood are warmed and sweeten by the vanilla and Peru balsam.

Fruity, complex, spicy and warm, with notes of black currant and rum. Creating a fruity perfume with only natural ingredients is quite a challenge, since most fruity aromas are synthetic. An opulent  black currant absolute blended with sparkling rum enabled me to create a fruity perfume with the tonality of winter fruit.

Heart: pimento berry absolute, black currant.
Base: black tea, patchouli.

Light and luscious with notes of cognac, fresh ginger, blood orange, and olive absolute in organic grape alcohol. Fruity olive absolute provides a smooth backnote to the evanescent sarsaparilla and fresh ginger. Delicious!

Different from the main line of alcohol-based perfumes, this Fig Essence is in a carrier of fractionated coconut oil, which wears more closely to the skin.

Jasmine sambac, fir absolute, and yuzu create the richness of ripe black figs. Without a true natural fig essence available, my fig contains no fig, but employs a sleight-of-hand based on a rare, almost fruity lavender from Spain, paired with the sweet and jammy fir absolute.

Base: Africa stone, fir absolute.

Warm winter spices featuring smoked cinnamon and antique clove built on a base of tonka beans and vanilla. The elegant floral heart features jasmine sambac and Turkish rose.

Base: choya, tonka bean, vanilla.

Very sexy on the skin with notes of tobacco, cedarwood, and lime. The blond tobacco and hay share a musky aroma that causes this perfume to mix with each person’s body chemistry in an intimate and idiosyncratic fashion.  Possesses a certain sweetness, with animal backnotes.

Sexy and warm with notes of amber and other balsams. Slightly animal, but with a rounded softness. This perfume smells like a fine leather item that you want to lift to your nose. Perfect for layering with other Aftelier fragrances to add a wonderful clean, subtle, sexy depth.

A blend of essences that create a feeling of calm and clarity. Leads off with a woody citrus top, moving into an herbal rose heart and finishes with incense notes.

• Scent Family: Mossy Woods

Exquisite pink lotus and turn-of-the-century sandalwood. I wanted to center a perfume around the big floral-floral pink lotus, a very full-bodied, voluptuous floral. Complex, with an orangey-pink color, it holds its own against the other florals I’ve included. This also called for a big base like a traditional chypre with oakmoss.

Heart: tuberose, jasmine, ylang ylang.
Base: antique sandalwood, oakmoss.

Clean and fresh with notes of pink grapefruit, bitter orange, and fresh ginger. An uncomplicated citrus fragrance, perfect for layering with other Aftelier fragrances to lighten and freshen.
