This sumptuous patch box is an example of the reason these 19th century (circa 1795-1820) French enamel boxes are so sought after. The cobalt blue enamel is festooned with tiny gold stars everywhere. Gilt leaves encircle the lid and sides. The case feels good in the hand and is nicely fitted with a brass inner pot for solid perfume. Original mercury glass mirror with charming defects due to age. This case is 1.5" across the diameter, and the price includes 1/4 oz (8 ml) solid perfume of your choice.

Very good condition throughout; not even one gold star missing. but minor scratches and a couple of nicks. Patch boxes came into use during the 18th century at the court of Louis XV, where the use of "beauty patches" was popular. A beauty patch was made of gummed silk and pasted on he skin as a "beauty mark" to emphasize a woman's facial feature, usually the cheek.
