Sweet small 4-leaf repoussé clover covered antique sterling silver Art Nouveau (circa 1900) patch box. Hangs on short (1.5") hand-made handsome sterling silver chain making a beautiful pendant necklace. Very special. Three hallmarks and one "M ⊓" marker's mark. Patch boxes came into use during the 18th century at the court of Louis XV, where the use of “beauty patches” was popular. A beauty patch was made of gummed taffeta and would be posed on the skin as a “beauty mark” that would emphasize a lady’s feature, usually the cheek. This case is 1" across, holds 1/8 oz. (4 ml) solid perfume of your choice.
