Rare Italian antique hand-painted snuff box with polished red-orange agate bottom. The slightly-domed top is porcelain -- exquisitely hand-painted with a highly-detailed miniature landscape scene. A river snakes between two green hillsides, with a mountain in the far distance. Red-roofed villas nestle in the valley and a steam locomotive curves around the bank of the river. Trees, fencing and a tiny church are also visible. The body is banded in stamped brass -- it has a tactile polish which only comes with great age & handling.
