Charming embossed Art Nouveau Patch Box with pansies and leaves from 1900. The box has a two-tone silver and golden surface from the brass showing through the silver plate in relief from the natural aging process. The front and back are embossed with a large pansy, assorted flowers and leaves. The box is bordered with sprays of flowers and leaves. Closes with a satisfying snap. 1.7 long by 1.3" wide, very deep (1"), and the price includes 1/4 oz (8 ml) solid perfume of your choice. Patch boxes came into use during the 18th century at the court of Louis XV, where the use of "beauty patches" was popular. A beauty patch was made of gummed silk and was pasted on the skin as a "beauty mark" to emphasize a woman's facial feature, usually the cheek.
