Encircling the front of this antique French sterling silver patch box is a delicate garland of roses and leaves. The back of the box features a beautiful star pattern rose and leaf garlands. Includes the original beveled "fish-eye" style magnifying mirror in perfect condition with a golden rim. Has a loop and jump ring that allows it to be worn as a pendant. Hallmark on underside of lid and on jump ring. Case is 1.7 inches across, and the price includes 1/4 oz (8 ml) solid perfume of your choice. Patch boxes came into use during the 18th century at the court of Louis XV, where the use of "beauty patches" was popular. A beauty patch was made of gummed silk and was pasted on the skin as a "beauty mark" to emphasize a woman's facial feature, usually the cheek.
