Finely embossed woodland leaves and berries decorate sterling silver Art Nouveau patch box circa 1900. Gorgeous back of case festooned with various embossed blooming flowers. An ornate embossed pattern decorate the edges of the box. Has ring which allows it be worn as a locket. Original concave mirror magnifies your reflection. Box has 2 hallmarks on the interior lid rim. Interior is gold vermeil, with the original beveled mirror in perfect shape. 1.5 inches across, the price includes 1/4 oz. (8 ml) solid perfume of your choice. Patch boxes came into use during the 18th century at the court of Louis XV, where the use of "beauty patches" was popular. A beauty patch was made of gummed silk and was pasted on the skin as a "beauty mark" to emphasize a woman's facial feature, usually the cheek. See example of antique patches in picture below.
