Superlative! Three jaunty birds on branches with leaves decorate this spectacular one-of-a kind Swiss sterling silver antique patch box from the 1800's. On one of the branches is the "Huguenin" signature. Huguenin pieces are collectable and know for their fine workmanship and charming rendering of nature. The top is covered with a beautifully done grass-like texture surrounding the birds and branches. It has an handmade sterling guilloché inner lid and gold vermeil inside. The mirror in perfect condition and there are 6 hallmarks on the rim of the lid. This patch box has ring which allows it to be worn as a locket. It is 2 inches across, and the price includes 1/4 oz (8 ml) solid perfume of your choice. Patch boxes came into use during the 18th century at the court of Louis XV, where the use of "beauty patches" was popular. A beauty patch was made of gummed silk and was pasted on the skin as a "beauty mark" to emphasize a woman's facial feature, usually the cheek.
