Art Nouveau Sterling silver antique French patch box embossed with two stunning iris flowers with their leaves on the front. Clusters of embossed flowers decorate the back and front edges of the box. Has ring at the top which allows it to be worn as a locket. Inside the lid is a beveled mirror in perfect condition encircled by a gold rope. and along the rim are three silver hallmarks. Inside is a gold vermeil wash and closes with a satisfying snap. The box is 1.5 inches across, and the price includes 1/4 oz (8 ml) solid perfume of your choice. Patch boxes came into use during the 18th century at the court of Louis XV, where the use of "beauty patches" was popular. A beauty patch was made of gummed silk and was pasted on the skin as a "beauty mark" to emphasize a woman's facial feature, usually the cheek.
