Antique French bronze ormolu and enamel patch box with hand painted roses surrounded by wheat border. The back is bronze with an all-over diamond-accented repossé pattern. The edge of the case is decorated with a repossé rope pattern. Has ring which allows it to be worn as a locket. Perfect except for a small scratch in the left rose.Patch boxes came into use during the 18th century at the court of Louis XV, where the use of "beauty patches" was popular. A beauty patch was made of gummed taffeta and would be posed on the skin as a "beauty mark" that would emphasize a lady's feature, usually the cheek. This case is 1-1/4" diameter and the price includes 1/8 oz. (4 ml) solid perfume of your choice.
