One-of-a-kind signed Frainier Art Nouveau antique French silver-plated patch box circa 1900. The top is fully embossed with two finely rendered sunflowers surrounded by leaves, buds and flowers. Frainier's execution of boxes was of superlative quality which is evident in the extraordinary workmanship on this elegant and singular piece. Frainier's success was immense but he choose to work by hand and remain small, and could not meet the worldwide demand for his work! Mirror inside the lid surrounded by gold beading. 2 inches across, and the price includes 1/4 oz (8 ml) solid perfume of your choice. Patch boxes came into use during the 18th century at the court of Louis XV, where the use of "beauty patches" was popular. A beauty patch was made of gummed silk and was pasted on the skin as a "beauty mark" to emphasize a woman's facial feature, usually the cheek.
