Sterling silver antique Art Nouveau French patch box with finely embossed chestnuts and leaves on the lid and along the edges are 4 charming nosegays. Delicate floral sprays decorate the back of the box. Hallmark of famed 1880's Parisian jeweler Prudent QUITTE on the rim of the lid along with two other hallmarks. Has a ring which allows it to be worn as a locket. Beveled mirror with gold rope border in great condition and gold wash inside the box. Feels substantial and good in the hand. It is 1.5 inches across, and the price includes 1/4 oz (8 ml) solid perfume of your choice. Patch boxes came into use during the 18th century at the court of Louis XV, where the use of "beauty patches" was popular. A beauty patch was made of gummed silk and was pasted on the skin as a "beauty mark" to emphasize a woman's facial feature, usually the cheek.
