This gorgeous sterling silver antique heart-shaped patch box was made by the great English silversmiths Adie and Lovekin. Their pieces are highly collectible. Made in 1899, this charming heart-shaped box is deeply and beautifully embossed with Art Nouveau motifs and has a gold wash inside. There are two hallmarks on the rim and 4 markers marks which are the signature of Adie and Lovekin inside the base. It is 1.25 inches across, x 1.25 inches tall, the price includes 1/8 oz (4 ml) solid perfume of your choice.
Patch boxes came into use during the 18th century at the court of Louis XV, where the use of "beauty patches" was popular. A beauty patch was made of gummed silk and was pasted on the skin as a "beauty mark" to emphasize a woman's facial feature, usually the cheek.
