Sweet repoussé clovers cover both the front and the back of this antique sterling silver Art Nouveau (circa 1900) patch box. Pair of hallmarks on rim. Mirror in great condition inside lid, encircled by gold beading. Patch boxes came into use during the 18th century at the court of Louis XV, where the use of “beauty patches” was popular. A beauty patch was made of gummed taffeta and would be posed on the skin as a “beauty mark” that would emphasize a lady’s feature, usually the cheek. This case is 1" across, holds 1/8 oz. (4 ml) solid perfume of your choice.
